Successful Baseball Field Retrofit Project (LED replace LED)

In many sports facilities, LED lighting has already replaced traditional technologies. However, not all LED systems deliver the same level of performance over time. As technology advances, older LED fixtures can become less efficient, resulting in uneven illumination and higher energy consumption than necessary.

This was the case for a recent baseball field retrofit project. While the field was already equipped with LED fixtures, the lighting quality no longer met current expectations. Players experienced inconsistent visibility due to uneven light distribution, and the system consumed more energy than modern solutions require.

To address this, we conducted a detailed photometric analysis and redesigned the lighting layout using new, high-efficiency LED fixtures. The goal was not only to improve brightness, but to achieve uniform illumination across the entire field — a critical factor for both performance and safety.

The results were immediate. The upgraded system delivered a brighter, more consistent lighting environment, enhancing visibility for players and improving overall field conditions. At the same time, the new fixtures significantly reduced energy consumption.

By upgrading from older LEDs to a more efficient system, the facility is projected to save over $21,000 in energy costs over the next 10 years. This demonstrates that even relatively modern lighting systems can benefit from thoughtful upgrades when newer technologies become available.

For facility managers and project planners, this project highlights an important point: effective lighting is not just about having LED installed — it’s about having the right LED solution. A well-designed upgrade can improve performance, reduce operating costs, and extend long-term value.

If you are considering a sports lighting upgrade, a data-driven design approach can make all the difference.
